Preparing Your Monstera for Winter
October 12, 2025 by AnnaAs the days get shorter and the temperature drops, your tropical plants need a transition period. Monstera Deliciosa, despite its robust nature, is highly sensitive to cold drafts and reduced sunlight. In this post, I’ll share my top three tips for adjusting your watering schedule and managing humidity levels during the dry winter months.
1. Reduce Watering
Remember, the biggest mistake indoor gardeners make is overwatering when the plant goes into dormancy. During summer, you might water once a week. In winter, wait until the top 3 inches of soil are completely dry. This prevents root rot.
2. Manage Humidity
Central heating destroys indoor humidity. Group your plants together or invest in a small humidifier. Misting helps, but only temporarily.
3. Maximize Light
Move your Monstera closer to south-facing windows if possible. Wipe the dust off the leaves with a damp cloth every two weeks to help them photosynthesize efficiently.
