Early spring herb starts rarely need a complicated setup. A bright window, moderate watering, and not burying seedlings in dense soil already solve most beginner problems. Basil usually wants warmth, parsley usually wants patience, and thyme often wants less attention than expected.
Consistent watering and better support made the biggest difference. A simple bamboo frame helped stems stay upright, while a stable routine reduced cracking and irregular growth more effectively than extra feeding.
Container herbs do better when the mix stays airy. Dense soil can trap moisture and stress roots, especially in cooler weeks. A lighter blend often makes small spaces easier to manage.
Start by removing dead material, rinsing reused containers, checking drainage holes, and refreshing the top few centimeters of soil. The easiest maintenance tasks are often the most useful.
Winter highlights weak drainage, poor placement, and overwatering much faster than summer. It is not always the easiest season, but it is often the most informative one.
